HAPPY MARDI GRAS DAY! It’s Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras Day. Which means tomorrow I start Lent. I was not raised Catholic but I have been observing Lent since High School, when one of my friends was giving up soda for Lent and health reasons (she is diabetic) and I, in a moment of solidarity, decided to participate with her. Mostly i give up soda or fast food (which for me is a huge deal). When people find out I take part in Lent but am Catholic they usually don’t get it. I don’t really think of it in religious terms. Instead i think of it as 40 days that i deprive myself of something i love as a way of reminding myself that others go without so much more. Anyway, the point of this little rant was to say Happy Fat Tuesday! Now i am going to get a King Cake and the largest Dr. Pepper I can find.
